چکیده

The determination of the mean survival time t ~i.e., inverse reaction rate! associated with diffusion-controlled reactions among static traps is a problem of long-standing interest, dating back to the classical work of Smoluchkowski. For the broad class of model particulateand digitized-based models considered here, we find a universal curve for the mean survival time t for a wide range of porosities. The functional form of this universal scaling relation is motivated by rigorous bounds on t and is expressible as a simple function of porosity, specific surface, and mean pore size. © 1997 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-9606~97!50321-7#

Diffusion-controlled reactions: Mathematical formulation, variational principles, and rigorous bounds

This paper is concerned with the problem of predicting the effective rate constant k associated with diffusion-controlled reactions in media composed of static and reactive traps (sinks) which are generally distributed randomly throughout a region containing reactive particles. The effective equation for diffusion-controlled reactions is derived using the method of homogenization. This leads to...

Diffusion-controlled reactions: Upper bounds on the effective rate constant

For a diffusion-controlled reaction in a static, reactive bed of nonoverlapping spherical traps, upper bounds on the effective reaction-rate constant have been obtained from a variational principle of Rubinstein and Torquato. The bounds remain finite for all volume fractions and arbitrary distributions of traps. We have obtained two kinds of bounds: one kind depends on the trap volume fraction ...

Trapping reactions with subdiffusive traps and particles characterized by different anomalous diffusion exponents.

A number of results for reactions involving subdiffusive species, all with the same anomalous exponent , have recently appeared in the literature and can often be understood in terms of a subordination principle whereby time in ordinary diffusion is replaced by tgamma. However, very few results are known for reactions involving different species characterized by different anomalous diffusion ex...

Trapping and flow among random arrays of oriented spheroidal inclusions

The effective trapping rate k associated with diffusion-controlled reactions among random distributions of spatially correlated and uncorrelated, oriented spheroidal traps of aspect ratio E is determined from Brownian motion simulations. Data for k are obtained for prolate cases (E = 2, 5, and lo), oblate cases (E = 0.1,0.2, and OS), and spheres (E = 1) over a wide range of trap volume fraction...

Pascal principle for diffusion-controlled trapping reactions.

In this paper, we analyze the long-time behavior of the survival probability P(A)(t) of an A particle, that performs lattice random walk in the presence of randomly moving traps B. We show that for both perfect and imperfect trapping reactions, for arbitrary spatial dimension d and for a rather general class of random walks, P(A)(t) is less than or equal to the survival probability of an immobi...
